Abstract: The growth of Bengali nationalism and the long struggle for rights finally led to the Liberation War of 1971. After many stages of protest and resistance, the Bengali people proved their strength to the world through this war. We learn about the Liberation War from many sources such as history books, novels, plays, poems, rhymes, and newspapers from both Bangladesh and abroad. Among these sources, the letters written by the freedom fighters are especially important. These letters are real historical documents that show the true experiences of the war. Many letters have been lost because they were not properly preserved, but some are still kept in the Liberation War Museum and in private collections. These letters tell us many important facts about the struggle for independence. The book Letters of ’71 includes many such wartime letters and provides valuable information about the war.The letters describe the freedom fighters’ war strategies, their training, and their emotions during the war. They also show how the fighters stayed connected with their families and friends even in dangerous situations. These letters are strong evidence of how families were involved during the war, and they are important primary sources that deserve more research.This article focuses on the thoughts and emotions of the freedom fighters during the Liberation War, based on the letters included in the book Letters of ’71.
